And…\u00a0 here’s what’s really important: my food perspective.\u00a0 Food and I have had a contentious relationship at times, as I am sure many people have.\u00a0 I’ve always appreciated yummy food.\u00a0 My mom was a fantastic home cook.\u00a0 Her idea of cooking for kids was they eat whatever the grown ups are eating, a concept I wholeheartedly agree with and have used with my own daughter.\u00a0 One of my fondest vacation memories was going to a fancy restaurant with my parents; I was about six or seven.\u00a0 Of course there was no kids menu, so I ordered the veal.\u00a0 Typical kid, right?<\/p>\n
I didn’t start cooking myself until my early twenty’s.\u00a0 It was a lot harder than my mom made it look.\u00a0 Once of the first things I tried to make was a cheese sauce to go with some french fries I baked in the oven.\u00a0 I didn’t look for a recipe.\u00a0 I thought I could just figure it out (and no, I had no idea what a rue was at that point).\u00a0 I took two slices of wrapped processed American cheese, put it in a glass measuring cup, and put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes….\u00a0 It didn’t work.\u00a0 That was my first of many food fails.\u00a0 When I first met my husband I wanted to cook him dinner.\u00a0 I made mashed potatoes and put so much milk in them, they bordered on soup.\u00a0 He still ate them and has eaten everything I have made since.<\/p>\n
Thankfully I have grown since my rampant food fails in my early twenties.\u00a0 I love cooking all kinds of food, though baking seems to be my strong point, specifically cookies.\u00a0 In fact, my holiday season cookie baking is such a production, I track the process (cookie lists, ingredients, gift lists, etc.) on a spreadsheet that I start in early October.\u00a0 My spreadsheet has tracked my progress since 2007.\u00a0 Over the top?\u00a0 Perhaps, but I have a cookie reputation to uphold!<\/p>\n
